Exploded Screen students created moving imagery piece for the Peter Harrison Planetarium at Greenwich Observatory, communicating scientific concepts related to light, time and relativity. This included workshops on producing full-dome content led by @RCAIED PhD student Michaela French. She then created a small portable dome and we borrowed a hemispherical projector to test the work.
Student ideas encompassed for example Lewis Carroll, CS Lewis, MC Escher, Magritte, and the opening of Fellini’s 8 1/2. Noting the chronological overlaps between relativity and surrealism, Nicky Hamlyn recommended the circle films of Marcel Duchamp. He also mentioned the HG Wells story ‘The New Accelerator.’
